Dear St. Matthew Families,
We are honored and excited to share with you a very special event taking place in our school community this week. St. Matthew CES is hosting the Pilgrimage Cross which is travelling to all schools in the Waterloo Catholic District School Board. The inspiration behind this pilgrimage is the Gospel story of The Road to Emmaus, Luke 24: 13-35.
Earlier this morning we welcomed the cross with a special celebration and liturgy led by Deacon Shawn Panio.
As part of our Board’s celebration this year as People of Faith, the Pilgrimage Cross is providing our school community with a unique opportunity to share our personal faith stories, renew our hearts to the call of Jesus in our lives, and walk with one another as we deepen and strengthen our personal relationship with God.
During this coming week, until Wednesday afternoon, the cross will remain in our front foyer and classes will come and visit it, and do many reflective activities. The cross will leave us on Wednesday April 25th as it heads to the Ontario Catholic School Trustees Association AGM in Toronto, before returning to the WCDSB.
We will be having a closing ceremony, which takes place at 12:45 on Wednesday April 25th in the gym. Parents are most welcome to join us as we conclude our time with the cross.
We encourage you also to take time during the next few days to discuss the significance of what faith means to your family and how you can walk together on this journey of faith throughout your lives.
We hope you will be encouraged, strengthened, and excited as you follow St. Matthew staff and students journey on The Road to Emmaus.
